چکیده

This paper presents methods for using parallel computer systems to optimize performance of previously published methods for snow modelling, to achieve real-time performance. These methods have not been created with real-time use in mind, and therefore require much computational resources. The method includes a model and parallelization scheme for snowflake motion in the air, simulation of a wind field, and accumulation of snow on the ground. Focus is set on efficient parallelization on multicore processor systems.

Parallel Methods for Real-Time Visualization of Snow

Snow is a familiar scene in the Nordic countries during the winter months. This paper discusses some of the complex numerical algorithms behind snow simulations. Previous methods for snow simulation have either covered only a very limited aspect of snow, or have been unsuitable for real-time performance. Here, some of these methods are combined into a model for real-time snow simulation that ha...

An explanation for the effect of clouds over snow on the topofatmosphere bidirectional reflectance

[1] It has been a long-standing puzzle why clouds, which should interact with solar radiation similarly to a thin layer of snow, have such a dramatic effect on the reflectance observed by satellites over snow-covered regions. The presence of a cloud over the snow strongly enhances the anisotropy of the scene, so that a cloud-over-snow scene appears darker than clear sky over snow when observed ...

Investigation of snow cover changes affected by climate change In North West of Iran

In this study in order to monitor snow cover, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) optical images were used, while for detection of snow covered areas, the  snow index-NDSI, was applied. The results showed - according to the climatic conditions of the region- during the following months: December, January, February and March, most of the area is covered by snow and the max...

Cellular Automata Modeling of Snow Transport by Wind

We present a lattice gas model to simulate snow transport by wind and its deposition on a given ground pro le. Parallel Optical Snow and Sampling Importance Re-sampling (SIR)

Parallel optical snow is a particular kind of image sequence where all of the objects move parallel to one another. The problem is to determine the direction of this parallel optical snow. It has been shown that there exists a solution to this problem via a Fourier transform. Our objective is to solve this problem without using a Fourier transform. Instead, we use Sampling Importance Re-samplin...
